Central areas of research include the cultural, historical and socio-political relevance of translation and interpreting, inherent structures and processes.
The Department of Translation Studies at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities is seeking to appoint a

Professor of Translation Studies 2

(40 hours per week; permanent employment according to the Austrian Law on Salaried Employment (AngG); Expected starting date September 1st 2015 )
Successful candidates will have excellent research credentials and be able to contribute to international and interdisciplinary projects. They have knowledge in all areas of translation studies, in particular in the Department’s fields of specialisation Translation from a cultural and/or sociological perspective and/or in the area of Translation and Minorities (Community and Sign Language Interpreting). Successful applicants will teach at BA and MA level and on the doctoral programme of the Humanities Faculty, supervise BA and MA theses as well as doctoral dissertations. They will also assume management and administrative responsibilities in the Department and the Faculty.

Requirements for employment
  • Completion of an appropriate university degree at a university in Austria or abroad
  • Habilitation or equivalent qualification in Translation (or Interpreting) Studies or a related subject with a research specialisation in a relevant field
  • Excellent scientific qualification in research and teaching for the relevant subject and profile of the professorship
  • Doctorate or equivalent qualification from a domestic or international third-level institution
  • Excellent research expertise and relevant teaching experience in Translation Studies
  • International post-graduate experience
  • Competence in securing research funding
  • Management and administrative experience
  • Experience with gender equality and mainstreaming

The candidate is expected to demonstrate his/her educational and didactic skills. The incumbent will conduct and promote research in the areas of Translation from a cultural and/or sociological perspective and/or in the area of Translation and Minorities (Community and Sign Language Interpreting), and support inter-institutional networking, have a good command of at least two of the languages taught at the Department (https://translationswissenschaft.uni-graz.at/de/studieren/studienangebot-am-itat/), have leadership skills, a cooperative leadership style and communicative skills, have the excellent level of German required for the completion of administrative and management duties, as well as tuition and supervision of students’ research, and be able to teach in German and English. Experience in securing research funding and the management of research projects will be an advantage.

Classification

Salary scheme of the Universitäten-KV (University Collective Agreement): A1

Minimum salary

The minimum salary according to the classification scheme of the collective agreement is EUR 65.769,20 gross per year. Salary subject to negotiation.
